Keeping Redbridge Moving: How Kenson Highways Helped Deliver a Successful Post-Winter Road Repair Programme

At Kenson Highways, we take pride in working closely with our local authority clients to improve road safety and maintain high-quality infrastructure for communities. One recent project weโ€™re particularly proud of is our partnership with Redbridge Council on their post-winter Find and Fix carriageway programme โ€” a proactive initiative designed to tackle the seasonal wear and tear caused by harsh winter conditions.

The Challenge

Winter months are notoriously tough on road surfaces. The combination of cold temperatures, heavy rainfall, and increased vehicle usage often leads to a spike in potholes and surface deterioration. Recognising this, Redbridge Council launched an intensive eight-week programme from late February to mid-April to address the damage โ€” supplementing their usual schedule of highway inspections and repairs.

The objective was clear:
– Identify and repair potholes on roads showing significant deterioration
– Focus on locations with poor structural condition scores not yet scheduled for resurfacing in 2025-2026
– Improve road safety and reduce risks and inconvenience for residents and road users

The Kenson Highways Approach

Working in close collaboration with the Councilโ€™s Highways Engineers, our team helped shape and deliver the programme with speed and precision. Together, we prioritised roads based on condition surveys, public reports, and safety inspections.

In total, we completed an impressive 1,723 additional pothole repairs across over 52 roads โ€” averaging 43 potholes repaired every day. This targeted, data-driven approach meant that we could address problem areas before they reached critical levels, reducing future risks and enhancing the overall condition of Redbridgeโ€™s road network.

Why It Matters

Programmes like Find and Fix are vital for maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of local roads. By acting early and addressing known issues, councils and contractors can:

  • Extend the life of existing road surfaces
  • Reduce the number of emergency call-outs and future repair costs
  • Improve driving conditions and public confidence
  • Keep communities connected and moving

Thanks to the success of this initiative, Redbridge Council is now planning to deliver additional Find and Fix programmes throughout the year โ€” a proactive strategy we fully support.

Teamwork That Delivers Results

Dhiresh Bhatt, Head of Highways at Redbridge Council, summed it up perfectly:

โ€œIโ€™d like to thank our Redbridge Highways Team and Kenson Highways for their fantastic work in delivering this post-winter programme. Their commitment and hard work have made a real difference to the safety and condition of our roads, and Iโ€™m proud of what weโ€™ve achieved together for our residents.โ€

At Kenson Highways, weโ€™re proud to play our part in keeping local roads safer, smoother, and fit for purpose. This project is a shining example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships, proactive planning, and a shared commitment to community-focused service.
