At Kenson Highways, we’re proud to be supporting the delivery of transformational infrastructure projects that make a real difference to communities — and our latest work with Enfield Council is a fantastic example of that in action.
As part of Enfield Council’s commitment to improving walking and cycling provision across the borough, we’re currently delivering a new active travel route linking Enfield Town Station to Broxbourne, a significant project funded by a £6 million investment from Transport for London and National Highways.
This nearly 5km route forms an important connection between the boroughs of Enfield and Broxbourne, enhancing sustainable travel options, encouraging active lifestyles, and supporting local communities with safer, greener ways to move around the area.
Project Highlights
The scheme includes a combination of off-road and on-road infrastructure, designed to improve safety, accessibility, and connectivity for people walking and cycling:
2.9km of shared use path running alongside the picturesque New River, providing a scenic, traffic-free route for pedestrians and cyclists alike. 1.8km of on-road cycling infrastructure, featuring junction upgrades, new pedestrian and cycle crossings, wayfinding signage, and revised speed limits to create safer streets for all users.
The route is thoughtfully designed to integrate with Enfield’s growing active travel network, linking to other strategic walking and cycling routes and passing through some of the borough’s most attractive environments, including Forty Hall and Capel Manor.
Supporting Sustainable Growth and Regeneration
Beyond enhancing active travel provision, this project plays a key role in the Enfield Town regeneration programme. By improving sustainable transport links into the town centre, the scheme supports local businesses, reduces congestion, and contributes to a cleaner, healthier urban environment.
It reflects Enfield Council’s forward-thinking approach to place-making — ensuring infrastructure not only meets the needs of today’s residents but also lays the groundwork for future generations to choose active, environmentally friendly travel options.
Proud to Deliver for Enfield
We’re proud to be delivering this vital infrastructure on behalf of Enfield Council. It’s a great example of collaboration between local authorities, funding partners, and delivery teams working together to bring ambitious projects to life.
As the project nears completion, it’s clear to see the positive impact this new route will have — providing safer, greener, and more connected journeys for people living, working, and visiting the area.
At Kenson Highways, we look forward to continuing to play our part in creating sustainable, future-ready infrastructure that benefits communities and the environment alike.
