Prior to the improvement works, Disraeli Path was a well-used but problematic pedestrian route. Local residents consistently reported concerns around safety, citing numerous blind spots, poor visibility, and insufficient lighting. The absence of CCTV surveillance further contributed to the area’s reputation as a high-risk location, with many residents choosing to avoid the path altogether, particularly during evening hours.
A Comprehensive Approach to Public Realm Improvement
The revitalisation of Disraeli Path focused on transforming the route into a safe, attractive, and accessible space. The design approach included both hard and soft landscaping elements, integrated security infrastructure, and sustainable urban drainage features. Key elements of the upgrade include:
- Enhanced Lighting & Visibility: The path has been opened up to allow greater access to natural light, significantly improving visibility throughout the day. This has been complemented with the installation of new lighting and high-specification CCTV columns to ensure the area remains safe and secure.
- Landscaping Improvements: The project included both hard and soft landscaping, creating a more inviting environment for pedestrians and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the path. These improvements also contribute to better drainage and support the health of newly planted trees and shrubs.
