Royal Docks Corridor Officially Opens: A Major Step Forward for Sustainable Streets

Kenson Highways is proud to have worked in partnership with the London Borough of Newham to deliver the Royal Docks Corridor project, which has now officially opened.

Stretching from Canning Town to Connaught Bridge, this ambitious scheme has transformed a key route through the borough, creating a safer, greener, and more accessible corridor for residents, visitors, and commuters alike.

Transforming a Key Route in Newham

The Royal Docks Corridor introduced a range of improvements designed to support active travel and enhance the public realm. The scheme includes:

New cycle lanes to encourage safer and more accessible cycling Wider pavements to improve pedestrian comfort and accessibility Safer road crossings to support better connectivity across the route Enhanced green spaces to improve the urban environment

Environmental sustainability has been a key focus throughout the project. The scheme includes more than 180 newly planted trees and approximately 4,000 square metres of rain gardens, helping to manage surface water, support biodiversity, and contribute to a more attractive and resilient streetscape.

Supporting Healthier, Greener Travel

By prioritising safer walking and cycling infrastructure alongside greener public spaces, the Royal Docks Corridor helps encourage healthier and more sustainable travel choices while improving the overall experience for everyone using the area.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful infrastructure design can transform busy urban routes into spaces that better serve communities while supporting long-term environmental goals.

Recognition for Sustainable Design

We are also delighted that the Royal Docks Corridor has been shortlisted for the Landscape Institute Awards 2025, recognising the scheme’s success in creating sustainable, inclusive, and resilient public spaces.

A Collaborative Achievement

The completion of the Royal Docks Corridor represents a significant milestone and reflects the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved in delivering the project.

Kenson Highways would like to thank our partners at the London Borough of Newham and all those who contributed to bringing this important scheme to life.

Together, we are helping to create infrastructure that supports safer streets, greener environments, and stronger communities.
