At Kenson Highways, our commitment to maintaining safe, reliable roads for the communities we serve is at the heart of everything we do. Recently, we partnered with Redbridge Council on their post-winter Find and Fix carriageway programme, a proactive initiative designed to tackle the extra wear and tear that colder months often leave behind on local road networks.
Responding to Seasonal Challenges
Winter can place significant strain on road surfaces, with fluctuating temperatures, rain, and increased traffic accelerating deterioration. Recognising this challenge, Redbridge Council launched an intensive eight-week programme from late February to mid-April, focused on identifying and fixing defects before they escalated into more serious issues.
Throughout this period, our team worked closely with the Redbridge Highways Team, prioritising routes with poorer structural condition scores that were not yet scheduled for resurfacing. The objective was clear: improve road safety, reduce future risks, and enhance the day-to-day experience for road users across the borough.
Delivering Tangible Results
Thanks to effective planning, collaboration, and the dedication of our crews, we successfully completed 1,723 pothole repairs across more than 52 roads, averaging 43 repairs per day over the eight-week period. This targeted, proactive approach meant roads were made safer sooner, reducing the likelihood of further damage and costly emergency repairs later in the year.
These works form a part of our highways maintenance and reactive response services, helping councils and clients maintain network condition and improve the resilience of road infrastructure in local communities.
The Value of Partnership Working
Programmes like Find and Fix highlight why partnership working is so important. By collaborating with our local authority partners and aligning resources and expertise, we delivered a strong outcome for residents and local road users alike.
We’d like to thank the Redbridge Highways Team for their support and cooperation throughout the programme, as well as our own crews whose skill and commitment made this work possible.
Looking Ahead
At Kenson Highways, we continually strive to support safer, smoother journeys across the regions we serve. Our approach to highway maintenance combines responsiveness with proactive planning — ensuring we help our partners deliver long-lasting, high-quality roads that communities can rely on.
