Giving Back to Ilford: Kenson Highways Supports Ilford inGreen 2026

Kenson Highways was proud to take part in Ilford inGreen 2026, organised by Ilford BID, joining businesses, volunteers and community partners for a day dedicated to improving Ilford town centre.

Supported by the London Borough of Redbridge, the initiative brought together local organisations to take part in litter picking, gardening and the restoration of rain gardens, helping to create a cleaner, greener and more welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

As a highways contractor, we work in public spaces every day. Looking after those spaces doesn’t stop when a project is complete, which is why getting our team involved in hands-on community volunteering felt like a natural extension of what we do.

Working alongside fellow volunteers, the day’s collective efforts achieved some fantastic results:

  • 10 rain gardens replanted and weeded
  • 4 large ceramic planters refreshed and improved
  • 267 new plants planted across the town centre
  • Litter cleared from High Road, Clements Road, Chadwick Road, Oakfield Road, Richmond Road, Ilford Hill and the A406 underpass
  • Approximately 25 refuse sacks filled through litter picking
  • Around 500,000 steps walked collectively by volunteers throughout the day

These improvements not only enhance the appearance of Ilford but also contribute to a healthier, more sustainable town centre, supporting biodiversity and creating greener public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

We’re incredibly proud of our team for rolling up their sleeves and making a positive difference alongside so many other local businesses and volunteers.

A huge thank you to Ilford BID and the London Borough of Redbridge for organising another fantastic community initiative and giving us the opportunity to be involved.

Community is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re always proud to support projects that leave a lasting positive impact beyond the highways we deliver.
